Lets all go back to bed!

I got wild hair a week ago and decided to mix my decaf and my regular coffee for two reasons.
1. space saver
2. trying to reduce my caffiene intake

As a result, I have had the WORST headaches!!! horrible ones that make it very hard to keep my eyes open. By 3:00 p.m. I am a walking zombie.....es no bueno mi amigos

Soooo caffiene is back in my life. I would much rather quit smoking. Which I'm going to do.

I'm running a 5K in October..so I have to be fit as a fiddle. I missed the run last year and another in April and have been mad at myself ever since.

Its pouring down rain today. I really love the rain. This kind of rain, where its not cold, or tooooo windy...is perfect! love it love it. makes everything green....i love green.

It was like the time I took the training wheels off my tricycle.

ok, its been a while.....lets catch up.

First, I moved...shacked up with my boyfriend/future husband/coolest guy ever. The moved kicked our butts, but we are settling in and getting used to everything. slowly but surely.

I'm bored of working. I decided to not take any classes this summer. I'm glad I did, because there's no way I could have handled moving with school stuff added in the mix. However, now that that is settled, i'm le bored. My boss tries to weasle more hours out of me. I refuse to tell him tho that I CANNOT stand doing this stuff 8 hours a day....that is why I quit 2 years ago to go back to school. GET IT??

So i'm trying to drum up a few new activities to keep my sanity until school starts. The Cool Guy and I are thinking of a spontaneous weekend trip. Albeit we are planning ahead...we still don't have a location picked, and we are going next weekend. Thats about as spontaneous as it gets around here folks.

I also want to plan a larger camping trip out at the White Sands in New Mexico...haven't been in about 12 years...and I miss it. ...its a lovely place.

well, back to the boring b.s.

Kayan Refugee Long-neck Women need your help

I read this and am so sad. I've always seen these women who wear the rings around their necks in my history and culture books, but never realized that this once ancient tradition has been stripped of its tradion and turned into a commercial enterprise at the expense of these women. Please read...this isn't a charity that needs money, it needs awareness. It needs people who go to Thailand to boycott this "tourist attraction" .....Thank you.

If you feel really ambitious, there is information at the bottom if you would like to speak your mind to the Thai government.

Hug a Tree Today

Today is Earth Day!

go plant a tree...water a flower or change a light bulb. You know, I make a concious effort to be planetarily aware on a daily basis. I'm always searchin the interwebs for ideas on more things I can do.... I have to say that i'm often left disappointed.

If I see one more "TOP 10 WAys to Be GREEN" that starts off with replace your lightbulbs, I'm going to scream. Is it not a requirement of Journalists to be creative and unique anymore?? What good are you if I have to do my own digging for new ways..

So these are things that I do on a regular basis. Some are basic, Some are a little above avereage: I think Earth Day is a perfect day for evaluation and improvement.

1. I recycle. Luckily my city provides a service so this is as simple as dumping it in a bucket and setting it on a curb. However, i'm really anal about rinsing them out, delabeling them and somewhat organizing it for the wonderful employees of the recycling center.

2. I haev CFLs. I have yet to replace ALL of my bulbs, but i have about 6 of them in my small house. I could use about 6 more.

3. I turn down my thermostat when i leave. I live in a rent house, so a programable one is not an option. This house is in serious need of insulation.

4. I try to eat organic if there is an option. Its not that i think its any safer for my body, but why use chemicals if you dont' have to.

5. I am ashamed to admit that I drive an SUV. A midsized one. Its cheap and it hauls all my junk. However, I have this little digital guage on it that tells me how many instant miles i'm getting. Its a game when I drive to see how high I can get it. So far I've gotten it to 66 mpg. I also keep my tires inflated, my airfilter cleaned, my oil changed, and I drive slow and don't slam on the gas pedal when I take off from a stop light. Once I pay off my student loans, I'll buy a hybrid.

6. I have a worm farm :) They are my pets and I love them like I do my cat. They composte my waste food. I have a two-year old, so we waste more food that I would like to admit. Thankfully, the worms eat it all up and I can put it in my garden.

7. I grow my own veggies. I haven't started my garden yet, i'm running a little late, but I'm moving soon, so I have a reason.

8. I wash in cold water, and I use biodegradable dryer sheets. I hang certain items to dry and sometimes dry one load for each two loads of washed clothes.

9. I use wal-mart bags for trashbags. Its hard for to get around using plastic bags. When I grocery shop, I am usually hauling things out of there in an over stuffed shopping cart. So instead of buying trashbags, I use these. Its probably not the green approach, however, by usuing them its hard for me to throw away things that are too big to fit in it. I have a theory, if its too big to fit in a wal-mart bag, it probably can be recycled. I have reduced my landfill waste by 70% since i've "gone green"

There are several more little things that I do, but this blog is gettin way too long.

SO THOSE ARE WHAT I DO......This is what I WISH I DID.

1. I need to buy biodegradeble detergent, for both dishes and laundry. I use a biodegradeable counter cleaner, but I also use bleach/water in a bottle... I need to stock up on Simple Green. My mom uses that.

2. I should collect more rain water so that I can use that to water my plants instead of the faucet.

3. I need to pay more attention to the companies I purchase from. Subaru, Toyota, Target, and Nike have all made efforts to go wasteless and are environmentally conscious. However, with the exception of Target, I do not do business with any of them.

4. I will work harder to potty train my son so I can quit using disposable diapers.

5. I need to look harder for recycled products. Its called closing the loop. ;)

I discontinued the newspaper because they were junking up the front walk

Dear Saturday Morning,

I know when I was a single party girl, I only liked you because it meant no alarm clock. However, it seems that you have a contract with my son and have weasled your way into our lives and I now have to enjoy you consciously.

I used to consider myself a morning person. Monday through Friday I would be up, coffee in hand, reading the paper, maybe even go out for a jog. Your friends the weekday mornings are harsh now. They laugh at me when I abuse the snooze button, they gleam the sunshine in my face and gave my coffee to the clock instead. Its not fair.

So, Saturday Morning, that has left only you and I (and occasionally Sunday Morning) to do the relaxing. While I still cannot sleep...and you wake my son up bright and early at 7 a.m. ..... I have my coffee, online newspaper, and a son who is in a good enough mood to sit and eat his breakfast.

I hear your brother, Saturday Afternoon, is going to be really nice today, so we may go out and enjoy him.

Your friend,
WaWaWee

I really wish I could start running again too

I'm trying to take a multi-vitamin again. Single mother's who work and go to school tend to be a little on the malnutritioned side, so I thought it best to just eat in pill form.

This particular pill makes my pee the brightest yellow I've ever seen. Lemons don't have yellow like my pee. The sun doesn't have yellow like my pee. Highlighters...maybe...probably closest to having yellow like my pee.

I gotta live with yellow pee tho, I believe vitamins are my answer to the stress issue.

I used to have a theory that writing with a red pen gives your day that little extra kick of jazz. So I think I'm going to bring back Red Pen Days. I miss them. And they are pissed for only being used to grade papers or edit documents. Today I will let them balance my check book.

Or one of those little creatures you squeeze and their eyes bug out.

Does breathing and counting to ten actually work to reduce stress for anyone? Not for me.

I'm working on my first ulcer. I love it. I love the feeling of acid churning in my stomach when things go absolutely awry. I know i said my life is a happy one...it is...but there are about two days a week when things are absolutely chaotic.

I need something stronger than breathing and counting....I need a punching bag in my office.

I'm also addicted to coffee

I'm turning 30 in exactly one month. I'm really not devistated about it. Worse things have happened. Hell, I already have gray hair. But I am actually looking forward to officially being a grown up. Throughout my 20's, even in the most professional of careers, I never felt respected as an "adult." So here we go...I'm 30, I demand to sit at the big kid table!!

Life is really great at 30 tho (yes, I'm saying I'm 30 already...I like to round up). I'm still not sure what I want to be when I grow up. But, I'm having fun figuring it out.

I do miss writing tho. Hence this new blogspot thing. Its called the "New Me," however, not so new, just rediscovered. I used to have so much fun blogging about random things. It brought a little jazz to the mundane routine of things. About 2 1/2 years ago, I had a child. THAT was the new me. The Mommy Me. I like that person, but I kinda wish I could bring back the spontenaiety, the randomness, and the elaborating on things the normal person never thinks about.

So, I'm sort of a treehugger. I like being a treehugger. Not the kind that actually hugs the trees or chains themselves to one that needs to be demo'd to make way for a new shopping mall. It does make me feel a little warm and fuzzy to recycle, or donate to a charity, ooor not wash my hair for two days to conserve water. I'm a treehugger in the sense that I like all things positive. I believe that happy people do happy things, and opting to NOT do something to help out somewhere is a form of negative..ism. So I do what I can. so far no one has gotten hurt.

I like shoes...flat ones...with pretty designs.

I'm going back to school....its pretty interesting. I really effed up highschool and didn't learn crap. I've felt pretty stupid my entire twenties. I did a good job of faking it for a while, but people are starting to catch on. I can't talk politics, or religion, or investment banking... So I figured the best way to become more learned is to go hang out with a bunch of newbie 20ers blowing their parent's money on a C average. I'm slightly embarrassed to admit that I was once just like them. Again, I'm glad I'm 30....
